Gelid ICY Vision GPU Cooler Review
Many of us upgraded our CPU coolers to keep our precious cpu's chilly , but what about our graphics cards ?
For most , stock graphics coolers just about do the job , if a little noisily. Keeping your card cool when gaming usually involved turning up the fan speed plus putting up with a hairdrier inside your case. CPU's ususally get preferential treatment inside most PC's when it comes to cooling , but given the importance of graphics cards in most modern PC's isnt keeping the graphics cool just as important ?
Well Gelid might very well have a solution to please nearly every customer ! The ICY Vision cooler comes in both Nvidia and AMD flavours and it's compatibility list is quiet good.
The ICY Vision offers to cooler your GPU better than a stock cooler whilst lowering noise output too. So lets see if it can live upto it's claims >>
Unpacking & Contents
After opening the packaging we can see all the supplied parts for installation. After the cooler itself there is fittings for both Nvidia & AMD , a fan cable with molex connection , VRM and RAM Heatsinks , Thermal paste, and also a little case sticker. The cooler itself has a very well made copper baseplate which is far supperior to any lapping job ive seen on any stock cooler. The Cooler has 2 x 92mm cooling fans which run @ 2000 rpm , but this speed can be adjusted via a external fan controller or plugged straight into the card fan header. The supplied thermal paste is of good quality so no need to go all out on buying the lastest formula of heat gooo. Just looking at the cooler and the supplied fittings the quality of the product is top notch and i can not fault it.
Fitting & Installation
I fitted this cooler to my own HD6870 within 60 Minutes including the time it took to remove the stock cooler. I found installation really quiet easy, but it does depend on what card you have , as different cards require a different approach.
The supplied instructions are reasonably competant for both AMD & Nvidia owners , though im sure even those not familiar with tinkering inside their PC's could manage to fit this cooler without too much of an issue.
Depending on what card you have i would set aside an hour to hour/half for installation including removal of old cooler, cleaning up , and installing new cooler.
If your a little unsure as to whether you can fit this cooler or just want a general guide to installation i made a HD6870 Guide whilst fiiting it to my own GPU. Just check the video to the left.

Performance & Results
Having had this cooler running in my PC now for a few months the results have been impressive. The Gelid ICY Vision does do what it says on the tin, my GPU's Temps have gone from 40-45c Idle and 70-88c Load to just 33c Idle and 53c Load. A massive drop of over 30c on load temps is more than i had expected and further more noise is no longer an issue as all i can hear now is a gentle hum. I have played Crysis , Crysis 2 , and Battlefield 3 for countless hours without a single issue and temperatures have not risen above 53c Load and thats in a room @ 23c !!! The VRM & RAM heatsinks also did their job well keeping the respective componants just as cool. Check out GPUZ results below
So with the results in , the question is , is the ICY Vison worth it ?? YES YES YES The Gelid ICY Vision has without doubt been the most impressive cooler ive ever owned cpu or otherwise. It keeps on it's promise of cooling more effectively with reduced noise , the cooler barely audiable above other case fans , and at reduced speeds you'd have trouble hearing it at all. The cost of the cooler is very reasonable too , infact , given what is supplied with the cooler it is very good value for money. So if your looking to cool your graphics card and kill that hairdrier sound from your PC then i suggest you look no further than the Gelid ICY Vision. What are you waiting for order one now !!!!
